Our talented group of vets

Anthony (Tony) Barnes BVSc MRCVS

My father was in the Royal Marines, so I was born in Portsmouth at the beginning of the war. I lived in Portsmouth until I was eleven and then we moved to Kenya, which was a wonderful experience. I studied veterinary medicine at Liverpool University and even met the Beatles! I graduated in 1965 and after a couple of years of work in and around Liverpool I moved down to Folkestone, the rest is history!  In 2008 I celebrated 43 years in general practice by moving the clinic from 17 Manor Road, in the heart of Folkestone to a purpose built clinic on the Shearway Business Park, where you will find the practice today. 2015 saw me celebrating 50 years in general practice. At home I have 3 cats (Jacob, Hardy (only has one eye!) and Sydney as well as 2 dogs - the infamous wire-haired dachshunds Maud and Mabel, who you may meet accompanying me to the practice.

Stephanie Hughes BA VetMB BSc (hons) MRCVS

I was born in North Wales and grew up in Wrexham, moving to Folkestone when I was ten.  I've always loved science and animals and becoming a vet seemed a perfect way to combine them. I studied at Cambridge Vet School, qualifying in July 2014. Having completed my student EMS placements at Manor vets I was delighted when they had a vacancy and I was able to join the team. I am currently completing a new graduate course, attending regular training on a variety of subjects across the veterinary field. My areas of interest include endocrinology and neurology and I am discovering a new interest in surgery too! At home I have a snake called Fluffy, five fish called Pinky, Perky, Bill, Ben and Nemo, a kitten called Nero and a horse called Jimmy Cricket.
